Burma's Border Security Force Abducts Five Bangladeshi Fishermen

1/11/2007

Burma's border security force, Nasaka, abducted five Bangladeshi fishermen on 4 December while they were fishing on the Naff River in their rowboats.

The Nasaka team arrested the fishermen and seized the four fishing rowboats, bringing them to Burma.

A border source said the Bangladeshi fishermen, who are Don tribal, were abducted by Nasaka forces on the island of Ali Kyunt, located in the Naff river near Nila Town of Bangladesh as they were fishing near the island during the day.

Bangladesh Rifles from the Nila outpost sent a letter of objection to Burmese authorities regarding the abduction of the five men and demanded they be released immediately.

However, the Burmese authorities have not given any response to Bangladesh authorities regarding the abduction. #
